Hank Wangford has embodied British Country Music for over 3 decades. After being indoctrinated by Gram Parsons in 1970, Hank has lassoed the hearts and minds of his public in songs, TV series and books.
Having crossed the country from Cornwall to Cumbria to universal acclaim in more than 230 village halls Hank is offering a return to “No Hall 2 Small”. His compadre is yodelling Brad Breath celebrated for his classic Glimpses of Gloom. As Andy Roberts Brad has played with Scaffold, Bonzo Dog, Plainsong, Billy Connolly, Pink Floyd, Rolf Harris and many others.
Hank and Brad will offer an evening of stories from the highway of life and a clutch of miserable songs, original heartbreakers, toetappers and gems culled from the dark underbelly of Country. Dolly Parton herself said that laughter and pain are both sides of the same tear stained coin. She also said that Country Music “is 3 chords and the truth”. Come and see if you agree.
Original songs will be from Hank’s CDs like “Best Foot Forward”, “Whistling In The Dark” which was British Airways featured Country album on all their long haul flights around the world, and “Save Me The Waltz”, Hank’s latest double offering, all in 3 time!
Remember – “It’s better to have Bad Taste than to Taste Bad” – Hank Wangford
Let the village halls speak for themselves –
“An emotional rollercoaster ride. From honkytonkin’ heartbroken songs of 1950s and ‘60s rural America via the 1984 British miner’s strike, right up to the present day. Beautifully crafted original songs full of class, wit and poignant observations. We laughed and cried – sometimes at the same time – it’s a privilege to be present on nights like these.” Mike Leigh
“Fantastic, relaxing, brilliant, so nice to sing to, a great night, fabulous.” Tolmen Centre, Constantine, Cornwall
“Hank’s special brand of humour left them all rolling in the aisles. A memorable night of music and mirth bringing the house down. In the process, the concert made around £250 for the building’s kitchen extension fund.” Hornton, Oxon
“A must see and must hear for any fan of Country music and if you’re not a fan you’ll soon convert. The music is beautiful, the stories funny and they have great taste in cowboy gear.” Carn to Cove, Cornwall
“Oh what a night, it really was such a night! It was a delight, a lovely set and great fun. Everything ran like a well-oiled machine.” Golant, Cornwall
“I didn’t think I liked Country but this was great.” “Just great, couldn’t have been nicer. Superb performers. When can they come back?” Heckfield Hampshire
“They went down a storm. Excellent rapport with the audience. The best yet from ‘Hog The Limelight’” Bighton Hampshire
“Nine out of ten Village Hall committee members have never heard of Hank Wangford” Greenhead, Northumberland. Once the other nine members saw the show, they invited us back a second time.
“The best thing is … I didn’t fall asleep” Johnny aged 8, Glenuig Village Hall
Hank & Brad’s very special guest will be their old friend Sam Spoons. Sam is celebrated as an original member of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, and is showcased on their classic album, Gorilla. Now a resident of Fremington, as well as his legendary epononymous prowess on the spoons, Sam may well be seen playing the Strohviol, and other instruments he has yet to master. And he has a smashing, not-to-be-missed garden!
